This is a working draft, not the final policy. It says what Recess actually does today so nothing here is untrue, but a lawyer has not written or reviewed it. Version 2026-08-17-draft.

The short version

Recess is a companion that helps you notice your own life and play better games with it. You keep your data. You can leave whenever you want and take it with you.

You must be 18 or older

No exceptions, and it is not a formality. Recess talks with you about how you are actually doing, and it is built for adults.

Recess is not therapy

It is not a therapist, not a doctor, and not a crisis service. It cannot tell when you are in danger and it must never be the thing you rely on when you are. If you are in crisis, contact your local emergency number, or in the US call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline).

What you are responsible for

What we are responsible for

What we do not promise

Recess is in beta. It will be wrong sometimes, it may be unavailable sometimes, and it is provided as-is. Do not use it as your only copy of anything that matters.

If Recess shuts down

You will be told before it happens, with enough time to get your data out.
